Spiritual Warfare: The Battle for Trust

Spiritual Warfare: The Battle for Trust

As I studied the verses that became part of this series, I began to notice a pattern.

Again and again, God revealed Himself as the source.

The source of life.

The source of righteousness.

The source of protection.

The source of inheritance.

The source of victory.

In every case, God was the One initiating, providing, sustaining, and accomplishing what His people needed.

And in every case, His people were invited to trust Him.

The pattern is simple but profound:

God initiates.

God acts.

God offers.

His people receive.

Trust is the posture that receives.

This does not mean God’s power depends on our trust. God remains who He is whether we trust Him or not. He is faithful even when we are faithless.

But while God’s work does not depend on our trust, our experience of His work often does.

If someone offers a gift, the gift exists whether it is received or not.

Trust is what opens the hand.

As I continued studying Scripture, another pattern began to emerge.

The enemy consistently attacks trust.

In the garden, the serpent did not begin by attacking God’s power. He attacked God’s character.

“Did God really say?”

The goal was not simply disobedience.

The goal was distrust.

If trust is how we receive from God, then it makes sense that the enemy would target trust so intentionally. Distorting God’s character through lies weakens trust. And when trust is weakened, our connection to the source of life is disrupted.

We still belong to God.

But we often stop receiving what He is offering.

Fear begins to replace peace.

Self-reliance begins to replace dependence.

Confusion begins to replace clarity.

Lies begin to shape perception more than truth.

The enemy does not need to stop God.

He only needs to convince us to stop receiving.

This is why spiritual warfare is ultimately not just a battle around us—it is a battle within us.

A battle over what we believe.

A battle over who God is.

A battle over whether His Word is true.

A battle for trust.

The good news is that God has not left His people defenseless.

He has given us His Word.

He has given us His Spirit.

He has given us truth.

As we learn to recognize deception, renew our minds, and remain anchored in what God says is true, we learn to stand firm and remain connected to the One who is our source.

The battle is real.

But so is the victory of the One who has already overcome.
