What Does God Mean When He Says, “Seek Me”?

What Does God Mean When He Says, “Seek Me”?

What Does It Mean to Seek God?

For a long time, I wasn’t quite sure what people meant when they talked about seeking God.

I understood seeking answers.

I understood seeking help.

I understood seeking direction.

But what does it mean to seek God Himself?

Then I came across Jeremiah 29:13:

“You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.”

What stood out to me was that God didn’t say we would find answers.

He didn’t say we would find a solution.

He didn’t say we would suddenly understand everything.

He said we would find Him.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that seeking God isn’t the same thing as learning information about God.

Don’t get me wrong. Learning matters.

I love studying Scripture. I ask questions. I look up words. I want to understand what I’m reading.

But information was never meant to be the destination.

The Bible wasn’t given merely to fill our heads with facts about God.

It was given so that we could know Him.

In the same way, seeking God is more than gathering information.

It is the pursuit of a relationship with the One those pages reveal.

It’s about responding to an invitation.

The part that still amazes me isn’t that God tells us to seek Him.

The part that amazes me is that He wants to be found.

The Creator of everything.

The One who made us.

The One who watched humanity turn away from Him.

The One who paid the price to bring us back.

He still says:

“Seek Me.”

And He doesn’t say it reluctantly.

He doesn’t say it as though He wishes we’d leave Him alone.

He says:

“You will seek Me and find Me.”

I don’t fully understand what it looks like to pursue a relationship with God.

But one thing continues to amaze me.

The God of the universe wants to be known.

And somehow, despite everything, He still invites us to seek Him.

And promises that when we do, we will find Him.
